Pastel Seascape with Jaci Hogan. Sat 18th Oct 2025

This one day workshop is all about how to use Soft Pastels for painting the sea.  You will learn how to handle soft pastels, with a hands on art session focussed on pastel painting techniques, exploring mark-making, blending, and layering to create vibrant and textured artwork.  In the morning you will be shown how to do a wet underpainting with pastels, followed by the dry layers of pastels in the afternoon.  We will aim to have a finished seascape/wave painting of A4 size by the end of the workshop.

This is suitable for beginners as no previous experience is necessary and you don’t need a high degree of drawing skill as this is all about the pastel layering. The aim is to help you feel comfortable and confident in using and understanding pastels as a medium for your art.

All materials are supplied, but suggest everyone brings a sketchbook, 2B or 4B pencil and a ruler.

Assorted very good reference photos are supplied ( people are welcome to bring their own photos if they prefer )
