An immersive painting workshop where you’ll explore both traditional and innovative approaches to egg tempera painting.
All materials will be provided, and no experience is necessary.
Date: Saturday, 12th July 2025
Time: 10am–4pm
Fee: £80 including materials
What to Expect
In this workshop, you will produce an A4 egg tempera painting on a pre-prepared gesso board. You’ll learn about the history of egg tempera painting and receive full guidance on supports, selecting an image, under-drawing, and approaches to starting, adjusting, and finishing your painting.
A variety of high-quality pure raw pigments will be provided for you to work with, along with a pre-prepared gesso board for painting. You will discover the unique qualities of each pigment as you make your own paints and learn about binders, supports, mediums, glazes, and varnishes.
Who Can Attend?
No previous experience is required. Whether you’re a seasoned artist or a curious beginner, this workshop welcomes everyone.
What to Bring
All necessary materials will be provided, including pigments, gesso board, egg, jars, palette knives, palettes, water containers, kitchen roll/rags, and a range of synthetic brushes.
If you have your own synthetic or sable paint brushes and a glass jar, please bring them along. You will also need to bring an A4 image to work from—this can be anything from a sketchbook page to a printed photograph. If you wish to work from direct observation, please bring the object or scene you want to paint.
