Hand Forged Ironwork and Hand Made Glass

Roy and Jacqueline work together as a partnership from their forge and studio in the heart of the Shropshire hills, creating Traditional and Contemporary Hand Forged Ironwork and Hand Made Kiln Fired Glass.

Roy has a sound background in engineering, architecture and fine art. He ventured into Blacksmithing in 1999 after 28 years in Architectural private practice. Artistic creativity has always been a particular focus of Roy’s life and he felt drawn to express his ideas in a more solid and tangible form. As an Artist Blacksmith he now works with steel, wrought iron, copper and occasionally other metals to produce bespoke metalwork to the highest quality and uncompromising design and craftsmanship; reflecting the passion he has for his work. He meticulously creates everything from candle holders, fireside tools and furniture to garden accessories, gates, railings, balustrades and sculptures. The National School of Blacksmithing at Hereford College of Technology provided Roy’s training in Traditional Forgework and his final project for the course was recognised by the British Artist Blacksmith Association and he was duly presented with their annual silver trophy. Work is mostly to commission, designed and made to specific customer requirements.

Jacqueline’s artistic background was predominantly in textiles until she became inspired to work with glass whilst following a City and Guilds Level 3 Design for Creative Studies course at Westhope Craft College in Shropshire where she was awarded the college Challenge Salver in 2008. Having discovered the kiln firing of glass to be both exciting and challenging, she furthered her training at ‘Warm Glass’ in Somerset. Since 2011, Jacqueline has been working as a Glass Artist creating original glass designs. She uses vibrant coloured hand rolled Art Glass for most of her projects; this is a high quality glass with a huge range of colours and forms. Experiments with the use of brass, copper and other metal inclusions within the glass she has found to be particularly exciting; this has led to her creation of unique and beautiful glass items for the home, such as her ‘Acer Glade’ pieces. Jacqueline’s Dichroic Glass Jewellery is complemented with quality solid hallmarked Sterling Silver findings.

Where possible Jacqueline and Roy both draw their inspiration from the huge resources that nature around them in Shropshire has to offer, creating their own individual and mostly functional pieces of art as well as collaborating to create designs in both metal and art glass.
