I combine jewellery making with photography, and recently relief printmaking. Though different techniques, I find the design process surprisingly similar, and each gives a new perspective to the others.
For my jewellery, I use woods (often salvaged), gemstones, and found objects to produce miniature, wearable pieces of art. No two pieces are alike. I need to understand the physical properties of the materials, and how to cut, join and finish them. Jewellery has always been part of human culture as a non-verbal way of expressing individuality. For me, each piece is a personal journey starting from the original concept. That journey can only end when a wearer chooses to wear it as a personal statement as to “who they are”.
