Gill was born in Essex and studied Fine Art at Waltham Forest School of Art and then the Royal Academy Schools London. She has worked as an apprentice milliner, in a clothing design studio and in theatre design.
She has lived on the Shropshire/Wales border for 30years and until recently taught art in further and adult education frequently running local projects and workshops. She has been part of two artists' co-operatives running galleries in Church Stretton and Oswestry and is a founder member of Borderland Visual Arts a networking group which holds exhibitions and an annual Open Studios event in the Oswestry area. Gill exhibits mostly in the UK and frequently in Wales including: MOMA Wales Machynlleth, Aberystwyth, Denbigh, Llanfyllin, Plas Newydd and Y Capel Llangollen.
Her work is based mostly on walks in the hills and by the sea and in the changing geology of landscape, particularly landforms that have been mined or quarried - scarred and then reclaimed by nature. Most work is in mixed media, using acrylic paint and ink on top of various other materials. She also makes prints, usually etching or monoprint.
