David's work transcends the figurative in his unworldly and spiritually charged canvasses. The new series of acrylic and mixed media paintings follow a theme of spiritual transcendence and change.
David works primarily in acrylic paints and acrylic mediums on canvas and MDF board. He combines impasto relief and textured brush work with thin layers of translucent colour washes. The washes are allowed to run and drip over the surface of the canvas and are sometimes worked over with palette knife or rag. Thin layers of colour wash, acrylic mediums and PVA are applied over time until a final image is achieved.
David has moved away from more figurative representations towards the inner landscape and ethereal body of spirit, soul and consciousness. Working from thoughts and feelings inspired by spiritual music and frequencies he hopes to imbue a sense of the human connection with the outer and inner worlds. This new way of working is in its infancy but there is a serious intent to develop and expand on the the work so far completed.
David is also concerned with commentary and recording of his perceptions of the world in which he lives. He states that although my painting is taking a deeper spiritual course, I am still urged to observe and record experiences in my daily life, whether that be sitting in a cafe, on a country walk, dreams on awakening or visions playing out in my mind.
David's new project "On the Face of It" is a commentary on modern world politics, power and its leading players attempts to provoke the viewer to reflect on recent world events and their responses to them.
