Bill Malkin & John Sylvester
Saturday 27th April, 8pm (doors open 7pm)
Tickets £10. Children £5
In a local folk and acoustic music scene which is blessed with more than its fair share of fine song writers, Bill Malkin stands out as one of the most accomplished. Combining strong melody and interesting lyrics, his songs span such diverse and eclectic topics as social and political change, the heroes and villains of history, the unusual and the ordinary.
No less a practitioner than Anthony John Clarke has said: ‘Bill possesses that all too rare gift of bringing people and history to life for us in his songs. The craft of song writing is in good hands. … quite a compliment! Elsewhere it has been said of Bill’s songs,” Here are tales to fascinate, atmospheres to savour and ideas to think about. His song writing is crisp, spare and straight to the point, like good songs ought to be.”
Bill and John first teamed up in 2007 after a chance meeting at the folk club in Aberystwyth. Since then they have secured their place on the local folk club and festival circuit … both as a duo and with the Band Wagon.
John Sylvester is an excellent keyboard player whose versatile and imaginative accompaniments perfectly complement Bill’s songs. From his youthful training in classical music his influences and style has extended to include rock, blues, Americana and folk. John has earned a reputation as one of the finest the ‘go to’ keyboard players on the local circuit. For the last 6 years he has also been the Musical Director the Aberystwyth ‘Castaway’ Theatre Group.
Over the last decade ‘Malkin & Sylvester’ have recorded and released seven CD’s of original music (most of which have international distribution through digital platforms like iTunes and Spotify) and are currently recording a new one for release in 2019.
